We’re here to make secondhand second nature

Our story

Our story

Depop is a community-powered circular fashion marketplace where anyone can buy, sell and discover desirable, affordable secondhand fashion. Since Depop was founded in 2011, our majority Gen Z and millennial community has helped popularise preloved style and drive resale culture forward in the UK, US and Australia.
We believe we can be an antidote to wasteful fashion, but there’s a lot more work to be done. That’s why we’re on a mission to make fashion circular - encouraging millions more people to choose secondhand and extend the lives of their clothes, redefining fashion consumption.
Today, our platform is defined by its breadth, depth and diversity. We champion everyone’s unique personal style journey. Whatever your style, whatever the mood or moment - you’ll find the fashion you love. A place where new cult brands are born, where celebrities and stylists source unique vintage finds, and where anyone can clear out their wardrobe and explore their style.
What makes us different

What makes us different

We believe that the secret to making fashion more circular - at scale - is by offering the most inspiring and accessible alternative to new, making it easy for people to choose resale over retail.
Sitting at the intersection of style, value, and sustainability, we want Depop to be the most exciting place for anyone to engage with fashion and trends in a more circular way. That means placing our community front and centre. Our people are what set us apart. Their diverse, broad range of style influences and connections to culture are what drives us forward. Every day, they’re creating unique looks, new trends and making new from old.
Our history

Our history

Depop was founded as a social network where readers of art and culture magazine PIG could buy items from the young creatives featured. We evolved to become a marketplace and mobile community space, and today we’re an app and web-based peer-to-peer platform where millions of buyers and sellers come to explore their style.
Powered by a team of 400 people, our company is headquartered in London, with offices in New York and Manchester. In 2021, Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy - the global marketplace for unique and creative goods - and continues to operate as a standalone company.
