Depop is not a platform. It’s a place.

Our story

Our story

Depop was founded by Simon Beckerman in 2011 as a social network where readers of PIG magazine could buy items from the young creatives featured in the magazine. After realising that Depop needed a selling function, Simon re-envisioned the app as a marketplace and a mobile space where you can see what your friends and the people you’re inspired by are liking, buying and selling.
Today, Depop is a place where millions of users come to celebrate their style and discover culture. The company is headquartered in London, with offices in New York and Manchester. Depop is powered by a team of around 400 people, dedicated to our mission of fashion for a better future.
In 2021, Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy - the global marketplace for unique and creative goods - and continues to operate as a standalone company.
Our mission

Our mission

Depop is the community-powered fashion ecosystem that’s kinder on the planet and kinder to people.
We want to build the world’s most progressive and diverse home for fashion – a place to explore unique fashion and be part of a community-driven zeitgeist that’s shaping culture for the better. This is a place where anyone should feel safe to show up as their full selves and feel good about the style choices they make.
Our community

Our community

Our community is made up of people who are creating a better future. A collective of individuals who inspire and grow with their evolving style and values. They are inclusive, diverse, progressive and creative. They are entrepreneurs, pushing fashion forward in so many different ways.
From launching their own brands to building vintage resale businesses. Creating unique looks, new trends and making new from old. Rewriting the rules and succeeding on their own terms – these are the people who power Depop, and supporting them is our top priority.
