Depop, the community-powered marketplace app to buy and sell unique fashion, announces its programme of activities to inspire, empower and celebrate its Black community of entrepreneurs for US Black History Month. This month’s activations follow on Depop’s commitment to provide a more fulfilling, comforting and inviting Black experience on Depop: by offering its community the educational resources they need to grow successful businesses, and increasing visibility of the style, history, culture and voices rooted within the Black community in fashion.

"On the back of our commitments to equalise entry into the fashion world for our Black community on Depop, we wanted to centralize our efforts for Black History Month on creating space for both dialogue and action through the theme of access," says Chinny Okolidoh, Global Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Depop. "2020 was a year of heightened awareness, and to see the real change and progress we are committed to occuring from 2021 onwards, we’ll be focusing on providing tools and access for our Black community to thrive within and outside of Depop."

Depop will kick off Black History Month with the launch of its first-ever partnership with Black in Fashion Council (BIFC), launching February 15th. The partnership features BIFC’s network of notable Black industry professionals - including co-founder Lindsay Peoples Wagner, designers LaQuan Smith, Anifa Mvuemba and Victor Glemaud, stylist June Ambrose, and consultants Chrissy Rutherford and Janell Hickman-Kirby - for an interactive, virtual content series that will equip Depop’s Black entrepreneurs and creators with essential business tools and amplify the Black community’s contributions to the fashion industry at-large.

Throughout the month of February and beyond, Depop will spotlight its US Black-owned businesses - including top sellers @beingaugust@enithingiwant, and @shauniescloset - throughout the Depop experience, including in-app and on social via #BlackonDepop.
